Persija Sends Riko Simanjuntak on Loan to PSS Sleman

Riko Simanjuntak's seven-year tenure at Persija Jakarta appears to be coming to an end, as the small but dynamic winger has been loaned to PSS Sleman for the remainder of the 2024-25 Liga 1 season. Persija's Director, Mohamad Prapanca, explained that the decision was made after careful consideration by the management and coaching staff, with the hope that Riko would have the opportunity to grow further during his time at PSS Sleman.

Riko joined Persija in 2018 from Semen Padang and still has a contract with the club until mid-2026. The 32-year-old quickly became an integral part of the team, but in the last two seasons, his playing time has decreased. In 17 appearances for Persija this season, Riko featured in 14 matches, starting in 8 and coming off the bench in 6. He has contributed 2 assists to the team's efforts.

Prapanca clarified, “The loan move was the result of extensive discussions, with all factors taken into account. The management, coaching staff, and Riko have all agreed to this decision.” He also emphasized that Riko remains a part of the Persija family, as his contract is still active with the club, and expressed hope that this loan spell will help Riko secure more regular playing time and continue his development.
