Arema FC Signs Player from PON 2024
Arema FC's first signing for the second half of the 2024 Liga 1 season is not a player from the top-tier league but a promising talent discovered during the 2024 PON (National Sports Week) in Aceh-Sumatra Utara. The new addition is Aswin, a player from the Sulawesi Barat football team.
According to Arema FC’s General Manager, Muhammad Yusrinal Fitriandi, Aswin is set to sign a contract before the second round of Liga 1 begins. The player was identified by Arema FC’s talent scouting team, who were impressed by his performance during the PON tournament. Aswin’s standout display helped Sulawesi Barat make history by qualifying for the PON finals for the first time in years.
Inal, as the GM is known, revealed that Aswin underwent a trial process with the club lasting two months, during which both his on-field and off-field activities were closely observed by the coaching staff. Since November, Aswin has been training with Arema FC, and the management believes he has shown significant development.
Aswin himself shared that he received the invitation for the trial after his performance in the PON. During his two-month training stint, he learned a lot, particularly from the senior players, who were generous in sharing their knowledge.
He mentioned that his primary position is as a defensive midfielder, but during the trial, he was often asked to play as a full-back, either on the right or left. While adapting to this new role, he is eager to make his debut and prove his worth for the team.
At just 21 years old, Aswin’s signing marks a fresh chapter in his career, and he is determined to make the most of the opportunity with Arema FC.
