Indra Sjafri Returns as Acting Technical Director of PSSI Amid Leadership Transition
Indra Sjafri has stepped back into a key role within Indonesian football by becoming the acting Technical Director of PSSI. This development became known during a public event when a government sports official addressed him with the new title, sparking curiosity due to his previous roles. Indra had formerly held the Technical Director position before taking on the role of Indonesia’s U-20 national team coach, and now, after stepping away from the coaching position, he remains involved in PSSI’s leadership.

The position of Technical Director had been vacant after Indra’s departure, with the Indonesian Football Association still searching for a suitable candidate to fill the role permanently. In the meantime, Indra’s appointment as acting director is seen as a strategic move to maintain continuity in overseeing football development across the country. He confirmed this new responsibility following the Gothia Cup 2025 event, marking his official return to PSSI’s technical management.

At the same time, PSSI has brought in Jordi Cruyff as a technical advisor, a role distinct from that of the Technical Director. While Cruyff’s focus is primarily on the national teams, the Technical Director’s duties encompass the broader growth and advancement of Indonesian football at all levels. This division of responsibilities aims to strengthen both the competitive and developmental aspects of the sport.

Indra Sjafri’s reappointment reflects PSSI’s confidence in his expertise and leadership during a transitional period. His experience as both a former Technical Director and youth coach positions him well to guide Indonesian football’s technical progress, especially as the organization seeks stability and direction while searching for a permanent replacement.
