Persebaya Builds Ambitious Coaching Team Featuring Ex-Assistants of Luis Milla and Shin Tae-yong

Persebaya Surabaya has initiated a comprehensive overhaul of its coaching staff in preparation for the 2025-26 Liga 1 season. Following an underwhelming campaign last year, the club released several key figures including head coach Paul Munster, goalkeeping coach Benny van Breukelen, and fitness coach Muhammad Alimuddin. However, club legend Uston Nawawi remains on board as assistant coach to help maintain the club’s identity and continuity.
Leading the new coaching setup is Eduardo Perez Moran, a Spanish coach with prior experience in Indonesian football. He previously served as an assistant to Luis Milla during his tenure with the Indonesian national team, providing him with valuable insights into local football culture and playing styles. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring in a modern tactical approach rooted in familiarity with the domestic scene.
Supporting Perez is Shin Sang-gyu, a South Korean coach who previously worked alongside Shin Tae-yong as a physical trainer for the Indonesian national team. He will serve as an assistant coach, sharing responsibilities with Uston Nawawi. This international-local blend is aimed at strengthening both the tactical and cultural foundations of the team. For the goalkeeping department, Felipe Americo, a Brazilian coach with prior Liga 1 experience, has been brought in to modernize training and improve performance.
The revamped coaching lineup reflects Persebaya’s commitment to bounce back as a serious title contender. With a fusion of international expertise and local club tradition, the team is setting its sights on a competitive and consistent season. The strong backing from supporters and the ambition to reclaim their place among the league’s elite underline the club’s determination to compete at the highest level.
