Indonesia National Team Faces Key Absences Against China
The Indonesia national football team is set to face China in the 8th matchday of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, but they could be without four important players. Two players are suspended due to yellow card accumulation, while the other two are sidelined due to injuries. These absences could pose a challenge for coach Patrick Kluivert as he prepares his squad for the crucial match at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on June 5, 2025.
Marselino Ferdinan and Maarten Paes are both unavailable due to accumulated yellow cards. Marselino received his cards during the away games against Bahrain in October 2024 and March 2025, while Maarten was booked in matches against Saudi Arabia and Bahrain. This disciplinary issue means that they will miss the upcoming clash with China. On the injury front, Kevin Diks is recovering from a thigh injury sustained while playing for FC Copenhagen in April 2025, which is expected to rule him out for the match. Meanwhile, Dean James is dealing with a hamstring injury sustained while playing for Go Ahead Eagles and, although he has resumed training, he is not expected to be fully fit for the game.
Despite these setbacks, the Indonesia team still has a strong roster to choose from, and Kluivert will need to adapt his lineup to compensate for these absences. Following the match against China, Indonesia will face their final qualifier against Japan at the Suita Stadium in Japan on June 10, 2025.
