Sassuolo Secures Swift Return to SerieA After Dominant Serie B Campaign
Sassuolo has officially clinched promotion back to Serie A just one season after their relegation. The team sealed their return with a commanding 3-1 victory over Modena during Matchweek 33 of Serie B at the Stadio Alberto Braglia on Sunday evening, April 13, 2025.
The match began with Sassuolo taking an early lead through their captain Domenico Berardi in the first half. Modena managed to level the score in the 60th minute thanks to Simone Santoro, but the response from Sassuolo was swift. Armand Lauriente restored their lead just four minutes later, and Luca Moro added a third goal in the 76th minute to wrap up the win.
The three points solidified Sassuolo’s place at the top of the table with 75 points, putting them 16 clear of third-placed Spezia, who were held to a 2-2 draw against Mantova. With only five matches remaining, Sassuolo is now mathematically guaranteed a spot in the top two, which grants automatic promotion to Serie A. Teams finishing third through eighth will have to battle it out in the playoffs for the final promotion spot.
Under the guidance of head coach Fabio Grosso, Sassuolo becomes the first club this season to secure promotion to Italy’s top flight. This achievement is a swift redemption for the club following their drop from Serie A last year after an 11-year run in the top division.
Grosso’s arrival has had a transformative effect on the team. Under his leadership, Sassuolo has racked up 23 wins, six draws, and only four defeats. Offensively, they’ve been one of the most dangerous teams in the league with 73 goals scored, while conceding just 34.
With promotion now in hand, Sassuolo's next target is to seal the Serie B title, as they remain nine points ahead of second-placed Pisa with several games left to play.
