Why PSSI Decided to Part Ways with Shin Tae Yong
Shin Tae Yong has officially been dismissed as head coach of Indonesia's national football team as of January 6. PSSI President Erick Thohir provided several reasons behind this decision during a press conference, citing issues related to strategy, communication, and leadership.

Erick emphasized that the national team needed a leader who could better implement agreed-upon strategies and foster clearer communication with the players. He also mentioned the necessity of a more effective overall program implementation.
In addition to these reasons, Erick explained that the dynamics within the team had become increasingly complex, and he did not want to rush into a hasty decision. He noted that, while the timing of the change was crucial, it made sense to act now with approximately two and a half months of preparation ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Erick further elaborated on the challenges of managing a team with many overseas-based players, stressing the importance of equal communication across all team members. He underscored that the team must be viewed as a cohesive unit rather than making individual judgments about players.
The decision was finalized when PSSI manager Sumardji met with Shin Tae Yong to deliver the termination letter. Although the transition process has begun, Erick assured that a new coach would be announced by January 12, and a meeting with domestic-based players would follow shortly thereafter to introduce the new leadership.
Erick also highlighted the intangible aspects of football, such as team cohesion and the relationship between the players, coaches, and PSSI, which he believes are key factors in building the strength of Indonesian football.
