Edin Dzeko Returns to Serie A at 39, Joins Fiorentina for New Challenge

Edin Dzeko has officially returned to Italian football after leaving Fenerbahce, signing a one-year deal with Fiorentina that includes an option for a second season based on performance conditions. The veteran striker, now 39, remains a reliable goal scorer and is expected to bring experience and leadership to Fiorentina’s attack.
Despite his age, Dzeko had an impressive spell in Turkey, scoring 21 goals in 36 matches during his debut season in the Süper Lig. Over two seasons with Fenerbahce, he totaled 21 goals and 8 assists in 53 appearances, though he did not secure any major trophies during his time in Istanbul.
This move marks Dzeko’s third stint in Serie A, following productive years at AS Roma and Inter Milan. At Roma, he netted 119 goals in 260 appearances, while his time with Inter saw him add 31 goals and help the club win two Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies. His return is seen as a strategic move by Fiorentina to bolster their frontline with proven experience.
Although Fiorentina has secured Dzeko’s services, the club remains without a head coach after parting ways with Raffaele Palladino at the end of last season. The arrival of the Bosnian forward could play a key role in shaping the club’s plans for the 2025-26 campaign as they search for new leadership on the touchline.
