​Ibrahima Konate Eyes Exit from Liverpool as Real Madrid Shows Interest

Ibrahima Konate, Liverpool’s French defender, is reportedly eager to leave Anfield as he enters the final year of his contract and refuses to extend his stay with the club. Real Madrid has been linked as his preferred destination, initially planning to sign him on a free transfer in the summer of 2026. However, recent reports suggest that the Spanish giants are considering an earlier move during the current transfer window.
Liverpool appears ready to sell Konate after his contract impasse, setting a price tag around 50 million euros. On the other hand, Real Madrid is reportedly willing to offer only between 20 to 25 million euros, creating a significant gap between the two clubs’ valuations. The situation has stirred speculation that Konate may push for negotiations with Real Madrid if Liverpool opts to put him on the market.
While some media outlets claim Liverpool is firm on not negotiating to avoid losing the player for free, the club recognizes that selling him this summer or in January might be the only option if a contract renewal doesn’t materialize. The Reds are cautious not to repeat past mistakes of letting key players leave without compensation, as seen with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Real Madrid, meanwhile, is weighing the possibility of reinforcing their defense, especially after Dean Huijsen’s impressive showing at the 2025 Club World Cup. Despite interest, no formal offer has been made for Konate yet, leaving the defender’s future uncertain as the new season approaches, with talks between the clubs and the player still unresolved.
