Udinese Drops Pursuit of Indonesian Defender Jay Idzes Due to High Transfer Costs
Italian Serie A club Udinese has reportedly withdrawn their interest in signing Indonesian national team defender Jay Idzes. The player was initially a top target for the club as they sought to strengthen their defense following squad changes. However, financial demands from Idzes’ current club Venezia, despite the player’s contract running until 2027, made negotiations difficult and ultimately stalled the transfer.
Venezia’s relegation to Serie B triggered a special clause in Idzes’ contract that should have eased his transfer, but the required fee of around 6 million euros proved too steep for Udinese. With other clubs such as Bologna and Lecce also showing interest, Udinese’s focus shifted elsewhere. The club has publicly denied rumors involving other defenders but continues to explore alternative options.
One alternative being considered is Saba Goglichidze, a young center-back from Georgia who plays for Empoli. Despite his promising performances and height advantage, Empoli’s asking price of 10 million euros was deemed too high. Other potential targets, including Albanian defender ArdianIsmajli, were also ruled out due to financial demands.
Udinese’s defensive rebuilding project remains ongoing as the club navigates financial constraints while seeking reliable players capable of strengthening the backline. The decision to step back from pursuing Jay Idzes highlights the challenges Serie A clubs face balancing talent acquisition with budget realities.
