New Chapter for Paul Pogba: Joins AS Monaco After Ban Reduction
Paul Pogba is poised to restart his football career by signing a two-year contract with AS Monaco, marking his first professional stint in Ligue 1. After leaving Juventus in November 2024, the 32-year-old midfielder remained a free agent and chose to accept a lower salary in order to return to top-tier European football with the French club. Despite having interest from teams in the Middle East and Major League Soccer, Pogba decided to rejoin French football and compete in the Champions League once again.

The negotiations with Monaco culminated in an agreement after several days of discussions, with Pogba having personally visited Monaco earlier in June to finalize arrangements beyond the pitch, such as housing and security. His absence from the field dates back to September 2023 when he last played for Juventus before being suspended due to testing positive for a banned substance. Originally handed a four-year ban, the suspension was later reduced to 18 months, allowing him to return to play in March 2025.

Monaco’s interest in Pogba started during the previous winter transfer window but financial limitations and doubts over his fitness delayed any move at that time. However, with Pogba eager to come back and willing to take a pay cut, Monaco acted swiftly when talks with other clubs stalled. The signing represents a significant acquisition for the club, which finished third in Ligue 1 last season and earned a spot in the Champions League.

This contract runs until June 2027 and is expected to see Pogba rejoin pre-season training in July. Having represented France 91 times and been instrumental in their 2018 World Cup victory, Pogba’s arrival is celebrated as a major boost for both AS Monaco and the French league as a whole.
