Persebaya Reunites with Local Star Rachmat Irianto in a Celebratory Homecoming

Persebaya Surabaya has officially welcomed back their hometown player, Rachmat Irianto, coinciding with the club’s 98th anniversary celebration. The club announced that Rachmat, affectionately known as Rian, has signed a multiyear contract to rejoin Persebaya after spending several seasons away. This return marks a significant moment for both the player and the club, symbolizing a strong bond between a local talent and his original team.
Rachmat’s journey began at Persebaya, where he was nurtured from 2017 until 2022 before moving to Persib Bandung. During his time at Persib, he faced challenges with injuries that limited his playing opportunities, despite being part of a squad that achieved remarkable success by winning Liga 1 titles in the last two seasons. These experiences contributed to his growth, even though they kept him from fully showcasing his potential on the field.
After his stint in Bandung, Rachmat decided to return to his roots by rejoining Persebaya. While the details regarding his contract length and financial terms were not disclosed, this move is viewed positively as the club strengthens its squad ahead of the 2025/26 Liga 1 season. His return is expected to boost the team's performance and morale, especially as the club prepares for new challenges in the upcoming season.
Persebaya has been active in the transfer market, bringing in several new players such as Risto Mitrevski, Gali Freitas, and Koko Ari, the latter also being a returnee. Alongside the player reinforcements, the club is undergoing a coaching transformation with Eduardo Perez taking the helm, supported by Shin Sang-gyu. This combination of fresh talent and experienced coaching staff reflects Persebaya’s ambition to compete strongly in the next Liga 1 campaign.
