Patrick Kluivert Stays Committed to Indonesia Despite Exit Rumors After Japan Defeat

Social media was recently flooded with speculation claiming that Patrick Kluivert had resigned as head coach of the Indonesian national football team. The rumors intensified following Indonesia’s heavy 0-6 defeat to Japan in the final match of Group C in the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers. According to the viral posts, Kluivert was said to have stepped down after only three matches in charge, expressing disappointment over the team’s performance and prospects.
However, investigations by credible media sources such as KOMPAS.com and ANTARA found no official statement from the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) confirming Kluivert’s resignation. Furthermore, neither the coach nor his representatives have issued any comments on the matter. The reports have been dismissed as false, and Kluivert remains under contract with Indonesia. Appointed in January 2025, the Dutch coach signed a two-year deal with an optional two-year extension, tasked with leading the team to its first-ever World Cup.
Looking ahead, Kluivert is now focused on preparing the team for the fourth round of the Asian qualifiers, which will take place in November. Indonesia is set to face a challenging group that includes teams from the Middle East such as Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Iraq, and Oman. Despite the recent setback against Japan, Kluivert remains committed to improving team performance and navigating through the difficult path toward World Cup qualification.
The draw for the fourth round is scheduled for July 17. Kluivert acknowledged the strength of the upcoming opponents and emphasized the importance of staying resilient and focused. He views the next phase as a fresh opportunity and is determined to make tactical improvements to boost Indonesia’s chances. The coach remains optimistic about the team's journey and the potential for growth in the challenging matches ahead.
