Florian Wirtz Set for Record-Breaking Transfer to Liverpool

Liverpool is on the verge of completing a historic transfer for German midfielder Florian Wirtz, after reportedly reaching a verbal agreement with Bayer Leverkusen. The deal, valued at €150 million including performance-based bonuses, will make Wirtz not only the most expensive signing in the club’s history but also the priciest in Premier League history. With competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich falling away, Liverpool emerged as the sole contender for the 22-year-old’s signature.
Previous offers from Liverpool—reportedly £109 million and £113 million—were rejected by Leverkusen, who held firm on their valuation. The Merseyside club eventually agreed to meet the German side’s demands through a structured deal involving achievable bonus clauses. Wirtz, who has already agreed on personal terms, is expected to become Liverpool’s second-highest-paid player, just behind Mohamed Salah.
Wirtz’s move is now pending a medical and the signing of official documents before he is unveiled as Liverpool’s third signing of the summer. He joins former Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong and young Hungarian goalkeeper Armin Pecsi at Anfield. This high-profile acquisition underlines Liverpool’s aggressive transfer strategy as they prepare for a new season under fresh leadership.
With Wirtz nearly secured, Liverpool is expected to intensify its pursuit of Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez and continue searching for reinforcements in attack. Wirtz departs Leverkusen after a standout stint, registering 57 goals and 65 assists in 197 matches. His 2024-25 season alone saw him directly involved in 31 goals, highlighting his status as one of Europe’s top midfield talents.
