Chelsea Abandons Pursuit of Mike Maignan After Failed Deal with AC Milan

Chelsea's attempt to sign AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan has officially fallen through after both clubs failed to reach an agreement. The London club had identified the French international as a key target ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup and entered into advanced talks to secure his transfer. However, despite intensive negotiations, the two sides ultimately decided to walk away from the deal.
The main obstacle in the discussions was the transfer fee set by AC Milan, which was reportedly higher than Chelsea was willing to pay. Milan recognized Chelsea's urgency to strengthen their squad for the upcoming international tournament and responded by increasing their valuation of Maignan. Chelsea, on the other hand, opted not to overpay, leading to the collapse of the potential move.
With the Maignan transfer off the table, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has turned his focus to the current options within the squad. The club already has a solid lineup of goalkeepers, including Djordje Petrovic, Robert Sanchez, and Jorgensen. This depth has convinced the management that reinforcing the goalkeeping position may not be an immediate necessity.
Additionally, the club boasts a promising young talent in Mike Penders, further supporting Maresca's decision to rely on in-house options. While Maignan was considered a high-profile reinforcement, Chelsea appears confident in the capabilities of their current squad as they gear up for their Club World Cup campaign.
