Jay Idzes Leads Venezia’s Survival Battle with Milan and Juventus Still Ahead

Jay Idzes is at the heart of Venezia’s mission to escape relegation in Serie A, but the road to safety is anything but easy. With six matches remaining, the team faces a daunting fixture list that includes some of Italy’s top clubs.
Their recent 1-0 victory over Monza ended a long winless streak dating back to December 22, 2024, offering a much-needed boost in morale and points. The win has rekindled hope for Idzes and his teammates as they look to climb out of the bottom three.
Currently sitting in 18th place, Venezia finds itself just inside the relegation zone, level on points with 19th-placed Empoli and trailing 17th-placed Lecce by only two points. The battle for survival is extremely tight, with every game now carrying massive implications.
The remaining schedule, however, is far from forgiving. Venezia will face Empoli (April 20), AC Milan (April 27), Torino (May 4), Fiorentina (May 11), Cagliari (May 18), and Juventus (May 25). Four of those opponents—Milan, Torino, Fiorentina, and Juventus—currently sit in the top half of the table, presenting a serious challenge.
Meanwhile, matches against Empoli and Cagliari are shaping up to be relegation six-pointers. These direct clashes could very well determine which teams stay up and which go down, making them must-win affairs for Venezia.
Idzes, who joined Venezia last year and helped guide the team to promotion, has since taken on the captain’s armband following the departure of Joel Pohjanpalo. Now, as the leader on the pitch, he’s tasked with steering the club through one of its most crucial stretches in recent history.
