Persebaya Aims for a Comeback After Four Consecutive Losses

Persebaya Surabaya’s head coach, Paul Munster, has emphasized the importance of mental strength and improving the team's offensive performance following their four-match losing streak in the 2024-25 Liga 1 season.

The latest setback occurred in week 20, where Persebaya suffered a 3-0 defeat to PS Barito Putera at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali, on January 25, 2025. This loss saw Persebaya drop to third place in the standings with 37 points, overtaken by Persija Jakarta, who moved up after drawing with Persis Solo.

Munster revealed that the coaching staff is working hard to address the team’s issues, particularly in scoring goals, with the aim of securing a win to restore the players’ confidence.

"We need to come back stronger. We know it takes mental toughness. Once you gain momentum and start winning, confidence naturally builds," Munster stated.

Additionally, the Northern Irish coach highlighted the underwhelming performance of the forwards, alongside frequent individual mistakes that have led to goals for the opposition. He also indicated that changes in the team’s tactics will be made in hopes of improving the team’s future performances.

"I will make adjustments. The performances of some players, particularly the forwards, have been very disappointing," said Munster, who previously managed Bhayangkara FC.
